Our challenge for the Qatar Pavilion at World Expo 2010 was to transform a prebuilt rented pavilion, into a historic fort. The design was to recreate the appearance of Barzan Tower, an instantly recognisable icon which evokes nostalgia and a sense of identity for every Qatari.
Working with an existing structure required innovative engineering and materials to create a convincing transformation. This innovation extended to the interior, as technology and traditional crafts were customised to create unique displays and environments. The pavilions exhibits were not only informative but interactive and inspirational. This ingenuity was recognised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the Qatar Pavilion won (in its class) the Bronze Award for Creative Display.
To commemorate the pavilion a feature book was designed by our team.
