Client: Sultanate of Oman
Theme: Heritage in Harvest Harnessing the Sun, Sand & Sea
Type: Purpose Built, Standalone Pavilion
Scope: Design & Build
The Sultanate of Oman Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 benefited from directly-accessible and highly-visible frontage along its length, as well as across the front of the site. We utilised the entire pavilion site to explore the story of Oman as it offered both exterior and interior interpretation opportunities. Interpretative and digital exhibits, immersive experiences, augmented reality and a mobile app provided a comprehensive set of tools with which to tell our stories in many places.
Every aspect of the pavilion was developed to showcase Oman and its story. A theme of ‘Heritage in Harvest: Harnessing the Sun, Sand and Sea’ was developed to answer the Expo theme of ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.
With a multifaceted interior, strong exhibit design and digital technologies, we delivered a creative balance between entertainment, engagement and information appropriate to our audience.
The pavilion was designed to incorporate all the theme inspirations of Oman – the varied landscape and traditional architecture, the aflaj (water channels) and aqueducts. The pavilion utilised spatial, visual and decorative elements to convey the identity of Oman. It included a restaurant, an open pool, roof gardens and all the amenities to ensure a memorable experience whilst highlighting the story of Oman.
